Motion capture has evolved from specialized VFX stages into a flexible ecosystem of wearable sensors, AI‑driven solvers, and multi‑camera optical systems. 

For studios working in real‑time engines like Unreal, the goal is consistent: capture natural human performance with minimal cleanup and maximum creative control.

Rokoko

We at Sonagraf have used Rokoko with consistent, predictable results. Although we have used high end pipelines from ILM solutions and Xsens to Optitrack, Rokoko is a solution we return to. It has become one of the most accessible high‑end pipelines, but it sits within a broader landscape of professional mocap solutions. 

Portability is also a key benefit, only limiting factor being structures with metal frames as the sensors are based on magnetic fields.

Our full kit with Smartsuit Pro II with gloves and head rig has been a workhorse.

When working with Unreal Engine Metahuman capture we have custom helmet based rig that allows two cameras to be used for Live-Link based capture.

Other Solutions

While Rokoko is a powerful all‑in‑one system, other solutions dominate different parts of the professional mocap spectrum.

Xsens (Inertial, High‑End)

Xsens is Rokoko’s closest competitor—also IMU‑based but positioned at a higher price tier.

Optical Systems (Vicon, OptiTrack, Qualisys)

These are the Hollywood‑grade solutions—multi‑camera optical stages with reflective markers.
